Check your tires

First thing tires. Seriously. Not just a glance, like really look. Winter’s icy and slippery, and old tires? They’ll betray you. I mean, tread depth matters. And if you can swing winter tires do it. You’ll thank me when your car actually grips the road.

Top off fluids

Oil, coolant, windshield washer top it all. Not gonna lie, I’ve been stuck scraping ice with frozen washer fluid and it’s… not fun. Just do it.

Battery check

Cold mornings  dead batteries. I swear, it’s a thing. Pop the hood, give it a look, maybe test it. You’ll save yourself some early morning panic.

Inspect brakes

Brakes yeah, obvious but icy roads make them your best friend. Squeaks, weird noises, anything off? Fix it. Trust me.

Wiper blades

Wipers… tiny detail, huge difference. Old blades streaky ice, foggy mornings. And honestly, nothing ruins your mood like not seeing the road.

Lights

Headlights, brake lights, fog lights… just check. Winter’s dark. Really dark. You want people to see you. You want to see them. Simple.

Emergency kit

Blanket, gloves, maybe a snack. Don’t roll your eyes. That “I’ll never need it” thought? Wrong. One bad snow day, you’ll be grateful.

Heater & defroster

Heater and defroster tiny things, huge comfort. Windows fogging, cold hands, long drive… yeah, check it. Makes mornings feel less like a punishment.

Fuel

Keep it at least half full. Don’t test fate. You never know when traffic jams, snow, or stupid detours will trap you somewhere. Half full is safe.

Scraper & de-icer

Scraper. De-icer. Simple. One morning, you’ll thank yourself when you’re not hacking at frozen glass for ten minutes. Honestly, little things matter.

So yeah, that’s my ten-point thing. Not complicated. Not perfect. But practical. Honestly, winter prep is just about a little awareness, a little effort, and maybe a cup of coffee in the cupholder to make the drive feel… human. And yeah when your car behaves, and you’re warm, and the snow is sparkling outside you’ll feel like you actually won winter.
