Buying these Japanese cars could cost you

Some Japanese cars look affordable at first, but the real costs show up later. Prices creep up quietly through maintenance, rarity, and expectations people don’t notice early.

Toyota Crown

Saw one parked outside a diner once, silver but dull under cloudy light. The road felt damp that day. I think it was priced somewhere near fifty grand, give or take. A song on the radio cut out halfway and nobody fixed it.

Honda Accord Hybrid

It hummed too quietly, almost like nothing was happening. Wind noise or maybe my thoughts, I’m not sure. Around forty-something thousand maybe. I didn’t even check the screen for fuel numbers that night.

Nissan Z

The tail end looked angry in a small-town parking lot. Somewhere a siren yelled for a minute then stopped. I think it’s close to fifty-ish grand now. Didn’t feel worth that under rain. But maybe that’s just mood.

Mazda CX-90

Drove past fields that didn’t move much, sky empty, almost white. My hands kept shifting on the wheel. Mid-sixty maybe, felt more than that though. Something about big quiet cars always feels half lonely.

Lexus IS 500

Too much for a small garage. I remember a bit of smoke from somewhere but not from the car. Probably seventy or something. The seat smelled like someone else’s cologne. I didn’t fix the mirrors.

Subaru WRX

I tried to start it when it was too early. Cold air, left the coffee on the roof. Maybe forty-something? It’s loud in a friendly way though. I lost a glove that morning and didn’t notice until late.

Toyota GR86

A blur under orange lamps. The kind of night that ends with silence instead of sleep. Thirty-something, maybe mid-thirties now. You forget to shift right because your head’s elsewhere.

Honda Ridgeline

Too clean for how muddy the road was. Wind picked up dust and the radio whispered nonsense. Around fifty, maybe less, maybe not. I didn’t shut the door properly the first time.

Acura TLX

Streetlight flicker through rain spots. My phone buzzed once then nothing. Somewhere near fifty-five, probably. The steering felt tighter than I remembered.

Mazda MX-5 Miata

The roof half down, wind all over, sky gone purple at edges. Maybe thirty-thousand, give or take. Someone said something about freedom but nobody listened.
