Consumer Reports Just Ranked 15 Car Brands By Reliability See Where Your Favorite Falls

Buying a car is a huge investment and nobody wants to be stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck because their ride quit on them. Consumer Reports just dropped their latest reliability rankings and some of the results might actually surprise you since the usual winners are still winning but there is a lot of movement in the middle of the pack. They gathered data on over 300,000 vehicles to figure out which brands are built to last and which ones might give you a headache down the line. If you are looking to buy a new car soon or just want to see if your current daily driver made the cut then you need to check this list out.

Toyota

It is probably no shock to anyone that Toyota is sitting right at the top of the heap again this year. They fixed up some issues with their trucks like the Tacoma and Tundra and now the whole lineup is pretty much bulletproof.

Subaru

Subaru slipped just a tiny bit to second place but they are still crushing it when it comes to keeping you on the road. The Forester and the Crosstrek are super reliable and owners just love how these cars handle everything you throw at them.

Lexus

You can always count on Lexus to be right up there in the top three because they are basically fancy Toyotas with nicer leather. They did not change much this year and that consistency is exactly why people keep buying them for the long haul.

Honda

Honda is holding steady in the fourth spot and they continue to build engines that just run forever without much fuss. You know exactly what you are getting with them and that peace of mind is worth every single penny you pay.

BMW

This one might shock people who think German cars always break but BMW is actually the most reliable European brand on the entire list. They have really improved their build quality lately and their cars are not just fun to drive anymore but dependable too.

Nissan

Nissan made a huge jump up the list this year which is great news if you are looking for something affordable and reliable. They have worked hard to sort out their old transmission problems and it looks like that effort is finally paying off for them.

Acura

Acura dropped a few spots but they are still in the top ten which is a safe place to be for a luxury brand. They offer a great balance of performance and reliability even if they are not quite as rock-solid as their parent company Honda right now.

Buick

Buick is kind of a surprise because they are the highest-ranked American brand on this entire list. They keep things simple with their SUVs and that simplicity means there are fewer things that can go wrong with them.

Tesla

Tesla jumped up a lot of spots this year because their older models like the Model Y are getting much more reliable as they figure out production. They still have some issues with the fancy new Cybertruck but the regular cars are holding up pretty well now.

Kia

Kia rounds out the top ten and they are still a solid choice if you want a lot of features for your money. They had some engine trouble in the past but their newer cars are proving to be decent daily drivers for most people.

Ford

Ford is climbing back up the ladder and having their best showing in years thanks to solid trucks and SUVs. The hybrid F-150 is having some growing pains but the regular gas versions are tough as nails and ready to work.

Hyundai

Hyundai is tied with Ford and they are generally reliable but some of their newer high-tech models are dragging down the score. If you stick to their simpler gas cars you will probably have a great experience but the fancy hybrids might be glitchy.

Audi

Audi took a bit of a tumble this year and fell out of the top ten because of issues with their new electric cars. They are still nice to look at and drive but you might be visiting the mechanic more often than you would like.

Mazda

It is sad to see Mazda drop so far down because they used to be a reliability superstar just a few years ago. They launched some big new SUVs with new engines and those growing pains are really hurting their score right now.

Volvo

Volvo is sitting at number fifteen and while they make some of the safest cars on the road they can be complicated to fix. Their plug-in hybrids are super complex and that complexity just leads to more stuff breaking down over time.
